25% of the population have experienced dissociative episodes.
 
More women than men are diagnosed with DID but it is believed this is because many men with DID are undiagnosed due to men often being more reluctant to seek treatment for their problems.
 
Dissociative disorders are far more common than is popularly thought – 1% of the population have DID and 10% have a dissociative disorder of some kind.
 
The dissociated identities usually include a child alter and an alter of opposite gender as well as the original (host) personality.
