  • Dissociative disorders are far more common than is popularly thought – 1% of the population have DID and 10% have a dissociative disorder of some kind.
  • 25% of the population have experienced dissociative episodes.
  • Dissociative disorders can be cured.
  • People with dissociative disorders often do not appear to have any problems and multiples are very difficult to spot contrary to popular images such as Sybil. Indeed they have learned how to manage and hide their symptoms so as to lead as normal a life as possible.
  • The dissociated identities usually include a child alter and an alter of opposite gender as well as the original (host) personality.
  • More women than men are diagnosed with DID but it is believed this is because many men with DID are undiagnosed due to men often being more reluctant to seek treatment for their problems.
